ELLISON AT FOUR MONTHS

On the 17th of July, the boy turned four (months). We had a photo shoot in the a.m., and this is what we got.

ELLISON IN THE A.M. (21 JULY 2015)

I am soooo behind on the blog. It's been a terribly busy summer, and the last couple of weeks have been particularly brutal. But here's a little aperitif to whet the appetite for all things Ellison, taken this morning (below). Many more pictures and much more writing to follow in the coming days....

FOUR MONTHS OLD

The wood blocks are a little confusing and/or misleading here. That's my fault, and something akin to a typo. Ellison is four months old today, 17 July 2015. Not four weeks old. Not five months old. Four months. And that's pretty amazing.

TOES, GLORIOUS TOES! (sung to the tune of the opening song in Oliver!, "Food, Glorious Food")

Papa, I can't believe you didn't tell me about these things earlier. Do you have them, too? You know what? Nevermind. I don't care. I've got toes to play with here, and they are glorious.

TUMMYTIME, AN' THE LIVIN' IS EASY

"Tummytime" (to the tune of "Summertime" from Porgy and Bess)

Tummytime,
An' the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin'
An' the cotton is high.
****
Oh yo' daddy's rich
An yo' mamma's good lookin'
So hush little baby
Don' yo' cry
****
One of these mornin's
You're goin' to rise up singin'
Then you'll spread yo' wings
An' you'll take the sky.
****
But till that mornin'
There's a-nothin' can harm you
With daddy an' mammy standin' by.

In my head, "Tummytime" is sung, of course, by either Ella or Billie. (Elli prefers Ella's version.
Which is A) surprising, given that he generally prefers Billie, and B) unsurprising because the boy
really likes to hear his name or versions of it.)

WORKIN' THE CORE

You know what sucks? Having to leave your family to go to school to get some work done. On a Sunday. The 5th of July. Yeah, I'm complaining. Deal with it.

You know what does not suck? Going to school to get some work done on a Sunday, the 5th of July, and getting a video like this:

THE TOES KNOWS

-Seriously, Mummy, did you know about these things at the bottom of my legs? You did? Well, why in the hell did you keep them from me for so long? Also, that is a great, great song.

SCALES WITH PHANTY

We don't draw any conclusions--the boy may never pick up an instrument or sing a song and he may only listen to the 2020s equivalent of the Spice Girls. But for now, he likes the human voice and what it can do.
